Aren't We Lucky?

It just so happens that our monthly fun'tion this month falls on National Dessert Day! And...it is Lady Prima Donna's actual birthday! Both of which occasions call for cake. So...

We will be meeting at 1:30, Saturday, October 14th, at the White Horse Coffee & Tea Company, 986 E Central Ave., Sutherlin (They are also in the phone book as 960 E Central Ave., Sutherlin. Probably because it occupies two buildings.)

As usual, a card, verse, or poem for our (pink) birthday Pip would be a nice gesture of friendship. And don't forget your kazoo!

See you Saturday,
Queen Debbee

P.S. Lady Rosebudd has offered to host our November meeting. More on that later.

Please be thinking of a month that you might volunteer to host or co-host... December and January are open. February is the Red & Purple "Sweet Heart" Convention at Seven Feathers.

Picnic time for Teddy Bears (and Pip Chicks)

We had a teensie bit of rain the morning of our picnic, but not enough to ruin our time together. In fact, once the clouds rolled away, it was an absolutely beautiful day with a hint of fall in the air. I just love this time of year! "Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower." ~ Albert Camus

We not only had great weather, we had great fun just visiting, catching up on summer vacation news, making plans for future fun'tions, and, of course, eating! (Lady Leilani shared chocolates and stories from her trip to Germany and Lady Prima Donna brought photos of her trip to Hawaii.)

Our newest Pip, Melinda Buhn, picked her Red Hat name, and will now be known as Duchess D'da. The other Pips at the picnic were Lady Rosebudd and myself, Queen Debbee.

The Teddy Bears had a great time as well and a few have expressed an interest in either joining our Red Hat chapter or starting their own.

Happy Birthday 2 Us!

Remember this? It's our first fun'tion. Many of us had never met before, but everyone was willing to step out of their comfort zone and get together with a bunch of other women who "just wanna have fun".

Thanks to all of you who were there, and to all of the women who have since joined us on this grand adventure!

This Saturday, September 9th is our second birthday and I have gone back and forth in my mind, and talked with the Baroness of Bargains and Lady Rosebudd about what we should do to celebrate. The two options we came up with were #1~ to meet at Applebees for lunch, and #2 ~ to meet for a picnic at the park. Since the weather will be changing soon, I think we should save Applebees for when the rain and cold hit and we can really enjoy their cozy atmoshere and yummy comfort food. So, here's the plan:

River Forks Park

September 9th

11:00 ~ 1:00 or 2:00ish

Bring: A picnic lunch for yourself, but leave room for dessert, The Baroness of Bargains is bringing birthday cake!

Bring: Two simple gifts for a gift exchange. This is a little tricky to explain...They can be anything, but keep it easy on yourself. Too busy to make something? Buy it. Budget too tight to buy something? Make it. Hopefully you get the idea!

Bring: One idea for a fun fun'tion. This doesn't need to be something you would host necessarily, just something you would like to do.

One last thing, let me know if you can or can't come ~ no need for The Baroness to bake a cake for just the two of us!

Hope to see you there,
Queen Debbee

P.S. I just heard from Lady Rose of Cimarron that the 9th is Teddy Bear Day. You may or may not know that I love teddy bears. I therefore decree: This picnic shall be a Teddy Bear Picnic in honor of all the Teddy Bears who bring comfort and joy to the lives of children young and old! Be sure to invite your favorite teddy(s) or soft fury friend

Enjoy this ode to teddys by Jim Kennedy:

(To hear the song click here)

If you go down in the wood today
You're sure of a big surprise.
If you go down in the woods today
You'd better go in disguise;
For every Bear that ever there was
Will gather there for certain, because
Today's the day the Teddy Bears
Have their picnic.

Ev'ry Teddy Bear who's been good
Is sure of a treat today.
There's lots of marvellous
Things to eat.
And wonderful games to play.
Beneath the trees where nobody sees
They'll hide and seek as long
As they please,
'Cause that's the way the Teddy Bears
Have their picnic.

If you go down in the woods today
You'd better not go alone.
It's lovely down in the woods today
But safer to stay at home.
For ev'ry Bear that ever there was
Will gather there for certain, because
Today's the day the Teddy Bears have
Their picnic.

Picnic time for Teddy Bears,
The little Teddy Bears are having
A lovely time today.
Watch them, catch them unawares
And see them picnic on their holiday.
See them gaily gad about,
They love to play and shout;
They never have any care;
At six o'clock their Mummies
And Daddies
Will take them home to bed,
Because they're tired little
Teddy Bears.

FINAL LUAU PLANS

OK! HERE are the final plans!
What:
Luau at Baroness of Bargains! (this is a public site, and if you need directions, call me, or email me.)
Where:
See WHAT!
When:
2:00 on July the 8th, 2006

Things that you should bring:

1. Your swim suit and a towel if you plan to use the pool...
2. A bunch of flowers that we can use for making leis. More than one if you can afford to, if not, that's OK too.
3. A finger food with a tropical theme for about ten-twelve I think.
4. A RED flower for our friend the Lady of Cherry Hill! Debbie H. is turning 50! We will include her REDuation in our celebrations this Saturday. Please include our usual notes and quotes as well.
5. Something warm to wear IN CASE it's cold. I have a fire pit in the back, and the weather has been perfect for the last week or so, but rather than having you be cold, I suggest that you be prepared for warm or cold weather.
6. If you have a sarong, bring it! We might practice tying those on as well.....

Plan on HULAing and maybe a little LIMBO! I have a few things planned, but I also plan on having a good visit with you all..... I am providing the BBQ kabobs, and grilled vegis as well as "grown-up" drinks. If you would like to plan on staying the night, that is fine, I also tried to plan the day so that those who are going back home can still get home before dark. Email me and let me know you are coming! Here is the list of people I know are going to be here as I type this letter:

Linda B
Debbie H
The Queen
Myself
Janet
Rose
Nancy
Constance and Friend

July LUAU in Reedsport!

Our meeting will be held on July 8th at the home of ME! Baroness of Bargains! We are having a luau and pool party! I will be serving drinks and BBQ, and there will be a fire in the fire pit. Things to BRING with you....

  • Some FAKE flowers (the carnations in the picture above are great to make leis with.)
  • Your swim suit
  • I am providing red hat hair flowers in place of hats, so you don't have to bring that.
  • Wear your sarong. If you don't have one, you can get about 2 yards of fabric at walmart for $1.00/yd and we'll practice tying them here. If you don't want to wear one, that's OK too.
  • A "hawaiian" treat to share with everyone
  • Your PJ's if you plan to spend the night
  • A warm sweater for the evening. It can get chilly here.

If you are planning to attend, email me at oceanbookworm@yahoo.com and I will send you directions to the house. There are a couple of hotels within walking distance of our house, and if you would rather not spend the night here, I can give you information for those. We will be making our own leis here at the luau. I am so excited! Get ready for fancy drinks with sugar on the rim, and lots of yummy food! I have a few games in mind, and lots of room in the pool. Talk to you all when you email!

Our last outing, a celebration of graduation for our dear friend, LadyBug. She has begun a new chapter in her life, and has completed a life changes class that will help her through this transition. We were lucky enough to be there as a group to see her finish!

LadyBug and Little Miss Snooty Lady showing the rest of us gals how to finish our fried Ice Cream!

Duchess of Wildfern Celebrated a June Birthday and we managed to surprise her with a new hat and a great song from the wait staff at Los Dos!

We had such a good time. Thanks to everyone that made it, and for those of you who missed it, WE MISSED YOU!

July promises to be fun in the sun! A Luau at my place! More details to come, but mark those calendars for the second saturday of July and plan to BE THERE!

Aloha!

3. What is one thing that you are scared to try?

4. If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be to? What would you do?

5. What is the one thing that signifies that summer is here to you?

Los Dos Amigas

Lady Bug and the Duchess of Deals traded in their Red and Pink hats for these 'birthday' hats at Los Dos for our May fun/tion. There were no activities planned other than eatin' and yakin', and everyone seemed to have a good time doing both.
We also decided that we will meet at Los Dos again for our June meeting. This time for dinner at 5pm on Friday the 9th instead of Saturday the 10th, so we can help Lady Bug celebrate her graduation from the Confidence Clinic. Way to go, Jan Renee! After dinner we will all head over to the Courthouse Annex on Douglas Street to cheer her on as she accepts her diploma :) Come dressed in your dressiest regalia. And don't forget your kazoo! Posted by Picasa
